Product Description
What's a panda to do when his dreams of kung-fu awesomeness awake to the cold reality of noodle-making? Clumsy, overweight Po (Jack Black) dreams of becoming a kung fu master like China's revered "furious five," but instead seems destined to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather in the restaurant business. When great leader Oogway has a vision that the imprisoned kung fu warrior Tai Lung (Ian McShane) will soon escape, he declares it time to choose China's dragon warrior--one kung fu master deemed worthy of possessing the dragon's scroll and its secret to limitless power. Po and all the townspeople rush to the Jade Palace atop the highest mountain to witness the contest between Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Crane (David Cross) and Viper (Lucy Liu), but Po is locked outside the palace. After a miracle of sorts, Po lands inside the palace gates, where he is chosen as the dragon warrior and placed under the tutelage of the decidedly non-plussed master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman). An unconventional student to say the least, hilarity reigns as Shifu tries desperately to make Po into some semblance of a kung fu warrior. Can Po possibly fulfill his destiny as dragon warrior, or was Oogway's final decision a critical mistake? A film rich with hilarious moments, superior animation, and an important message about believing in oneself and the power that comes from within, Kung Fu Panda is great entertainment that will have the whole family laughing and begging for more. (Ages 3 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

One good film :D, 16 Nov 2008
This is actually a really great film! My dad took me to see it in the cinema, 'cos he thought it looked good. Even though I think Jack Black is fully amazing, and Jackie Chan is awesome, I didn't think I would enjoy it, since I'm not one for cartoons, even though I'm not that old. I could hardly stop laughing though! It's a great film, for kids and adults, and even the odd teenager, like me! I highly recomend it, if, like me, you love comedies! :)
The Panda of Destiny?, 12 Nov 2008
Our story centers around Po the Panda (voiced by Jack Black). He is a Kung Fu legend. Evildoers fear him and the people adore him. The Fearsome Five long to fight with him. And everything...hold on, maybe that isn't the way it really is.
In reality, Po works in his father's noodle restaurant waiting tables. He's way overweight and out of shape. But he dreams about Kung Fu and idolizes the Fearsome Five, Monkey (Jackie Chan), Crane (David Cross), Tigress (Angelina Jolie) Viper (Lucy Liu), and Mantis (Seth Rogen). That's why, when it is announced that the legendary Dragon Warrior will soon be chosen, Po leaves everything behind and joins the rest of the village high up the mountain.
Through a series of events, Po winds up being named the Dragon Warrior, much to the dismay of the Fearsome Five and Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) who must train the rookie. Po doesn't think he can do it, but he doesn't want to quit. Shifu and the Five want to make him quit. But they'd better figure things out soon because an old foe is about to return to the village intent on destroying it. Can Po save the day?
Since I'm not a fan of Jack Black or Dreamworks Animation, I almost skip this flick. And that would have been a huge mistake. This is a fun movie for all ages.
So let's get the obvious and the only negative out of the way right now, shall we? We've seen this plot many, many times before. But the movie does a great job of making the familiar ride enjoyable.
Part of that is through the humor. There are lots of great one liners and slap stick scenes. It's not side splitting funny, but I laughed plenty of times. And some of the gags were completely unexpected. Yet the more serious and tender moments don't feel forced in the slightest. And the story is fast paced with an ending that made me smile.
The first few minutes are hand drawn animation, but the rest of the movie is computer animated. It looked amazing with plenty of beautiful settings and small details. They even managed to do a good job with the Kung Fu fight scenes. Heck, they were easier to follow than fight scenes in many of the live action movies made these days.
I always worry when I hear that a movie has a voice cast made up of famous people, but here they did a good job becoming the characters. I wasn't left picturing the actor recording the voice. Instead, I bought the characters and got lost in the story.
Okay, so this movie isn't highly original. It's still incredibly fun. And that's all that matters. I'm glad I gave the movie a chance.

Jack Black voices Po, a lazy, overweight Panda who idolises the Furious Five kung fu champions: Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Mantis (Seth Rogen), Crane (David Cross), Viper (Lucy Liu) and Monkey (Jackie Chan). However, when Po gatecrashes an initiation ceremony, he is accidentally chosen to be the mythical Dragon Warrior, who is destined to save his valley from the villainous leopard Tai Lung (Ian McShane).
The Furious Five are mortified that Po has gatecrashed their ranks, but Master Oogway (Randall Duk Kim) tells them that there are no accidents and this is indeed Po's destiny. However, when word reaches the Five that Tai Lung has escaped from prison, Po has to get into shape fast, so he begins training under Master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman).
Great fun!, 10 Oct 2008
As many before have kindly reviewed the story, I will leave at that. What I can add is that our 3 years old loved every second of it! Haven't been able to stop her from trying kung fu kicks since!
Really good fun!

Magical, 19 Nov 2008
What a lovely film!! I got this for my 3 year old daughter since she is going through a 'fairy phase'. I have to admit I actually sat and watched the film the whole way through myself.
Magical and cute, with added humour... some facial expressions perhaps lost on a small child, but not on me!
Recommended must-have DVD for anyones Disney collection!
Rubbish, 16 Nov 2008
A relative bought this for my daughters 5th birthday & what a waste of good money. My daughter who is a huge fan of Peter Pan wasn`t impressed with this. The animation is good but there is no feasible story line. Disney should have left Tinkerbell in her original form as in Peter Pan. It`s just another rip off sequel.
The dust she sprinkles still has great potency., 11 Nov 2008
J.M. Barrie first created the character Tinker Bell to appear in a play (Peter Pan) and then in a novel (Peter and Wendy) but her worldwide popularity is no doubt largely the result of her appearance in the Disney film that first appeared in 1953, Peter Pan. Tinker Bell later became the official Disney "mascot" in versions of the television series variously known as Walt Disney Presents, Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color, The Wonderful World of Disney, and The Magical World of Disney. The point is, she has been a major entertainment figure for more than 50 years and, at one point, was so popular that she received more fan mail than all others, including Marilyn Monroe.
Of course, children could not care less about her history but they continue to be delighted by her charm and energy. Tinker Bell is by nature a creature whose greatest talent is to "tinker" with whatever needs to be repaired; rather than pots and pans, she uses fairy dust that enables children to fly. Children love to explore secret places as when following Alice down a rabbit hole, or Peter Pan and the Darling children through an open bedroom window and then high above London at night, sailing with Geppetto, Figaro, and Cleo into Monstro's stomach, or visiting Pixie Hollow where Tinker Bell and the other fairies live. As in countless other Disney features, the production values in this film are outstanding, the music is seamlessly integrated with the plot developments, and the humor is appropriately playful. Also, I think the running time (78 minutes) is just right for younger children.
No need to list the special features. Others have listed them and they do add substantial value, although the younger grandchildren with whom I see them seem interested only in the games whereas I much prefer the background material. Some animated features (including the Disney classics as well as several produced by DreamWorks and Pixar) have an almost unlimited shelf-life, retaining great appeal throughout and among various age groups. I doubt if that will be true of Tinker Bell or, for that matter, Peter Pan. However, that said, I think that those who have seen it, as they grow older, will still enjoy seeing it again and again with younger companions if only to observe their delight. For me, the fairy dust has lost none of its potency after all these years...and never will. How wonderful!
Aww! Adorableness, 11 Nov 2008
What a lovely, lovely film! It's magical, and glittery and imaginative and beautifully done. The CGI quality is very good, and the ideas are wonderful; from Silvermist fairy manually putting dew-drops on spider webs, to catching the last of the sun's rays for lighting the glow-worms, to tinkering about with a broken ballerina music box... and chubby-cheeked Cheese the mouse, who is almost unbearably cute.
The fairy dust shimmers and sparkles throughout the film and, at its core, it's a lovely story about being true to who you are. Not a theme that will impact adult viewers, perhaps, but it is an excellent message for younger children, and grown ups will be charmed by its prettiness and innocence.
Pixie Hollow is a beautifully imagined place, and with a cast comprising of luminaries such as Anjelica Huston and Jane Horrocks, this isn't low budget cynical nonsense aimed at earning a fast buck before Christmas. It's genuinely witty, heart-warming and smile-making; a film for kids, adults and anyone in between.
The only word that describes it is "darling". Tinkerbell is absolutely darling, and it is highly highly recommended.

Product Description
As light and frothy as the Vivienne Westwood wedding gown that's an unofficial fifth star, the film version of Sex and the City is both captivatingly stylish and sweetly sentimental. Viewers who loved hanging with Carrie Bradshaw and her three pals during the series' TV run will feel as though no time has passed. Except that it has: Carrie and Big are poised to make a Big Commitment; Miranda and Steve are facing the breakup of their wonderful family; Charlotte and Harry have added to their brood; and Samantha (are we sitting down?) has been devoted to hunky Smith for five full years. Still, in all that time, the women's style, conviviality, and appetite for bons mots have only grown. When practical attorney Miranda learns that Carrie is considering moving in with Big (in possibly the coolest apartment in Manhattan), she can't help but frown in that but-you-might-lose-everything way. Carrie's retort: "For once, can't you feel what I want you to feel--jealous?!" The cast is spot-on, as always. Sarah Jessica Parker is effortless as the angst-ridden yet practical, stylish yet vulnerable Carrie. Kim Cattrall is deliciously decadent as Samantha, but she's wiser now and knows herself and her needs for a real relationship. Kristin Davis, as Charlotte, has quietly become the most gorgeous among the beauties, her sleek presence both winsome and sophisticated. And Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) shows nuance as a woman torn between betrayal and grudging hope. Supporting roles include Candice Bergen as the Vogue editor who anoints Carrie "The Last Single Girl in New York," and Jennifer Hudson, as a starry-eyed, ambitious romantic who represents the new generation of SATC women. Through it all, New York is a benevolent cocoon that envelopes and nurtures the women and their friendships and careers. No matter that none of them appears to have any semblance of "real" family; as long as they have each other, and Manhattan, all will be right with their world. --A.T. Hurley

Beautiful film to watch with young ones or by yourself if your a big disney fan! Very well made and lovely story!
oh dear :(, 21 Nov 2008
I would sincerely love to give this film 5 stars but i just cant. I'd be lying if i did. And the film isnt worth it.
Ok, like everyone else, i adored the 6 series of SATC and was sooooo looking forward to the film, but seriously, it was really frustrating to watch. in the end i was praying it would finish quickly.
The major problem for me was the fact that there just wasnt enough time to sort through all the ladies lives! like in the show, you had the whole season to reach a satisfying conclusion, not so in the film. One of the best things about the end of season 6 was that all the girls had found happiness, i was particularly fond of Miranda and Steve, but in the film, their relationship just get's blown to bits by his actions. it didnt even feel realistic, Steve would never of hurt Miranda if the series had carried on!
Another favourite couple is Charlotte and Harry. But he is barely there in the film! i was looking so forward to her getting pregnant, because of all the trouble she has had trying to concieve in her marriage to Trey, but it's like she gets pregnant, then this amazing thing barely gets a mention, then she has the baby, and it's not mentioned, and there's no big celebration with the other girls. it was a major let down. But her adopted daughter is lovely.
and Stanford and Anthony, well i dont even know what that's all about. and they are also under used. Samantha and Smith, he's also barely there. the best thing about her storyline is her cute dog.
Then there's Carrie and Big, and suprise suprise, he's messing her about again. Which had me asking the question that has stayed with me ever since the end of season 4 - Why didn't she stay with Aidan?
Apparantly, there is going to be a new SATC film, i will watch it and i will hope to high heaven it is a massive improvement on this one.

Not bad, but not great, 13 Nov 2008
I was a huge fan of the show. It was funny, witty, and well observed. The characters were very well rounded out.
The problem with this movie is that it feels more like a nostalgic "look at us, weren't we great" than a real continuation. I do applaud the choice to accept the passing of time and have the women older, but the whole thing feels clunky and overwrought in places. Most of the best supporting characters have been sidelined, and Jennifer Hudson's new character is unnecessary and one note (a waste of her talent). The four women seem to have been turned back into the worst and most cliched versions of themselves.
Carrie was always self absorbed, but her maudlin self pity for the whole movie is grating and over bearing rather than just one facet of a complex woman as it was on the show. She's also focussed far too much on at the expense of the other women, which the TV show wasn't half so guilty of. Samantha is underused with a weak story line (though at least its conclusion seemed very Samantha), and Charlotte is turned into a one note 'my life is perfect' type. There's zero movement with her character in the story though Kristin Davis is as lovely as ever in the part. Only Miranda is done any justice in this movie, and given how inspirational these characters were to so many women it seems criminal.
The much vaunted wedding dress and fashion show sequences just come off as self indulgent, and in general the movie just seems to lack the spunk and spark of its TV predecessor. It all feels like a slightly sloppy patische of the greatness that went before. Perhaps that's inevitable, trying to fill 2+ hours instead of a mere thirty/forty minutes? Please don't get me wrong, it's entertaining and fans of the show will enjoy it, I did, but it's not all I was hoping it would be.
A Christmas Turkey, 09 Nov 2008
Watched this with my partner and we both thought it was rubbish. Being gay and having a couple of glasses of wine didn't help, still thought it stank, which is a pity as we both enjoyed the series. Glad I didn't pay to see this turkey at the cinema.
Dreadful, 09 Nov 2008
This has got to be one of the worst films of its genre. I thought at first, and then realised, I was actually watching a bunch of clothes hangers with fabrics trying to act.
The script was so thin on value and character dimension you could have slipped a cigarette paper in between unnoticed. Even when trying to classify this as a bit of fluffy entertainment I felt completely let down.
It's always a bit sad when actresses past their prime of youth try to maintain a 'forever young' image and then look like they've been flayed for all their sins only to have had the skin re-applied by a oneyed butcher with two left hands.
The actresses looked like and acted as if they were just about ready to go into mummification, and the only thing that made them look alive were these garish clothes, cut to look as if they were made with the left-overs of a cloth remnants sale at Bergdorf Goodman's. Never even mind the hairdos effected in a windtunnel and then sprayed to perfection by a restyling crew of plasterers.
Miss SJP particularly looked as if she'd just been resurrected from Egypt's Antiquities collection, quickly filled with hot air which began to seep out during the making of this piece returning her to the original skin and bones look.
Sadly this piece of celluloid just about hovers below sublime ridicule. Straight to the bin to join Pearl Harbor DVD (2 Disc Set) [2001]....Oh Gawwd!
Don't even compare this with Mamma Mia! [2008] which is a treat.

The adventures of the Griffin family continue apace with this latest Family Guy boxset, which once again delivers many hours of quite brilliant animated comedy. The show, for those new to it, follows the wonderful Griffin family, headed up by the daft but loveable Peter and the happily oblivious Lois, through to their teenage kids Chris and Meg. But as any seasoned Family Guy viewer will happily tell you, the gold of the show lies with the two characters who are the brains of the family. On the one hand there’s Brian the dog, and then on the other is the little baby Stewie. He, surely, is the absolute highlight, a maniacal evil genius of a child, who in this season seven set finally manages to kill Lois. Insert your own evil laugh here. The 12 episodes on offer in the Family Guy season 7 boxset aren’t all vintage, but there are some cracking inclusions. The 100th episode special is a good place to start, and then there’s the small matter of President Bush’s underwear going walkabout. Throw in a bit of time travel for Peter, and it’s the usual oddball mix that helps make the show so strong. With plenty of rewatch value and a continued ability to generate laughs, Family Guy is a show that’s still thriving on the evidence with this set. And frankly, the next collection of episodes on DVD can’t come quickly enough. --Jon Foster

Bit of a let down, 28 Oct 2008
Heard this was a great film, but kids and I were sadly disappointed. A few funny bits, but on the whole, it felt very very long and boring!
side splittingly funny, 28 Oct 2008
summary: ok I'm biased, I love animated movies, martial art movies, and comedy in general but this really got to me - your kids will love it too!
========================
Beautiful film to watch with young ones or by yourself!, 03 Nov 2008

A slight rip-off, 18 Nov 2008
I started watching the series with great anticipation. As I soon realised that i had seen 80% of it before on TV. Still, its a must have for me on DVD. some good extras but nothing fantastic.
Funnier and More Inventive than any Sitcom, 16 Nov 2008
This latest offering from the 'Family Guy' team finds the writers and producers doing their best to be more outrageous than ever before. No celebrity is too big to ridicule and absolutely NO topic is considered too taboo. If this featured real live human beings they would NEVER get away with half of what they try here!
But the acid test is this: when being profane and attacking and offending every minority group in existence, is it actually funny? The short answer is `yes'. This is not merely funny, it is very funny indeed. Rosie O'Donnell features in one particularly insulting sequence, and when Joe has a leg transplant and becomes his old active self, the guys decide the only way to fix things is to `re-cripple him again'.
This is quite literally the most non-PC programme ever put on your TV screen, but it contains more invention and (frequently hilarious) jokes per minute than any sitcom.
Highlights are two numerous to mention, but I particularly enjoyed the sofa at Quagmire's shack (watch it and tell me it isn't superb!), and Peter's stripper-cop routine at his daughter Meg's hen night. Shocking stuff!
Sad to think that `The Simpson' was once written with this kind of genius. How the mighty have fallen...
Only downside is the first two episodes were put out separately as the `Star Wars' spoof `Blue Harvest', so this pack is a little light at only 12 episodes (including the double 100th episode, split into two). But no matter, I'd happily lay out decent cash for something this good any day of the week.
3 discs?, 15 Nov 2008
I love family guy,and I love the box set, but I got three discs, one is season 7 part 1, and two copies of season 7 part two. Did this happen to anyone else?
Bit dissapointing?, 14 Nov 2008
First of all, I love previous seasons. But this one is dissapointing. There was definitely too much too long and overdone gags and sometimes just awkward moments. Bit of a let down, really. Not to mention a rip-off. Twelve episodes + not so special extras? Come on..

"Master of the cruel one-liner"--Evening Standard "His eye for absurdity is as sharp as his suits"--Guardian Critically acclaimed comedian Frankie Boyle presents his hotly-anticipated first live stand-up DVD. Recorded live during his sell-out shows at London’s Hackney Empire, Frankie’s unique brand of observational comedy and brutal but perfectly constructed one-liners prove he is one of the best gag writers in the business. As the stand out act on top-rated satirical comedy show Mock The Week, the sharp-suited Scotsman shows us just a slice of what he’s capable of. In this DVD he unleashes his razor-sharp wit upon the audience with jokes that are too near the knuckle for TV, constantly venturing onto thin ice with outrageous jibes that could be utterly offensive if not delivered with equal measures of visceral cheek and sarcasm, demonstrating the full force of his comic prowess.
Bit of a let down, 28 Oct 2008
Heard this was a great film, but kids and I were sadly disappointed. A few funny bits, but on the whole, it felt very very long and boring!

Beautiful film to watch with young ones or by yourself!, 03 Nov 2008

Come on..
Old Hat, 21 Nov 2008
If you've watched 'Mock the Week' don't waste your money on this - you'll have heard 99.9% of the jokes before. Love Frankie but here I was just praying for it to end. I'm just relieved that I didn't fork out for tickets to one of the shows - what a rip-off!
Original once, but not so much now..., 19 Nov 2008
I thought the Frankie Boyle Live DVD was funny, but like many of the other reviewers on here agree that it's all been heard before. Anyone who is a fan of Frankie will have heard the majority of this material on Mock The week or the other various shows he's appeared on over the years.
I don't for one minute this MTW is off-the-cuff, but did think that his stand-up stuff would be new. It isn't.
In short, if you've never heard him go and buy this product, howvever if you're a fan I really wouldn't bother.
Shockingly reused material 90%, 18 Nov 2008
I was so disapointed and shocked at how much material was reused from the mock the week show I thought THAT Frankie would of use his wit and created a really good show but instead has dissapointed his fans from now on I will just watch mock the week instead of wasting my money on thing I have already seen.
Waste of money, 18 Nov 2008
Don't waste your money on this DVD, just watch the re-runs of Mock The Week on Dave for the next three months and you'll have all of the material on here minus the 'jokes' about Downs syndrome and Cerebal Palsey, and to be honest, you wont miss anything particularly funny there.
Can't make my mind up, 18 Nov 2008
I've watched almost every episode of Mock the Week and think that Frankie Boyle is the true star of the programme. Whilst I respect he's not to everyone's taste his 'close to the knuckle' style of humour always makes me wet myself, although I do sometimes find myself cringing in disbelief at some of the stuff he comes out with.
When I heard he was coming to my home town of Taunton I immediately snapped up tickets to see him. It's not often an act of his stature comes to visit. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the show and was in stitches throughout, as were the rest of the audience from what I could see. Yes, some of the jokes I had heard before on Mock the Week but this only accounted for around 10% of the show. The rest was fresh to my ears and some of it was obviously brand new material as he was talking about events that had only happened that week. Personally I thought that on the night his interaction with the audience was fantastic and appeared to be 'off the cuff', even if the "what do you do?" line did wear a bit thin come the end. However, be warned... If you don't like the use of the word 'c**t' do not go to see Frankie as it's used very frequently.
So good was Frankie's performance that I had to go out and buy the DVD. To be honest it was a bit of a waste of money cos the routine was exactly the same as the show, minus the recent topical stuff. Even the cruel remarks to the audience were the same. So much for being off the cuff! It soon became clear why he kept asking the audience what they did for work. Any other questions would have required Frankie to make something up on the spot instead of the well rehearsed replies he used at both the live show I went to and the DVD. To be fair to him though I was kind of expecting this to be the case. It was exactly the same when I watched Alan Carr's DVD after seeing him live. I guess most comedians have a well rehearsed routine that they adapt slightly as the tour progresses. Some clearly adapt more than others. However, I have to say that despite all of this I did find myself watching the whole DVD from start to finish and laughing at all the same jokes and put downs as I had the night before. There's just no denying that this guy is extremely funny. Whether Frankie will be remembered in time to come for his stand up routines or his television work on shows such as Mock the Week remains to be seen. I for one shall be watching with interest.
In summary this DVD is a must buy if you haven't seen one of Frankie's live shows. However if you have seen him live, unless you want a memento of your night I would save your pennies and buy something else.

========================

Sam | | |
